Jiminy Peak Repeater Added

We recently completed a major addition to the Berkshire Mesh repeater network. There has been a Jiminy Node installed by a member of the Upstate Mesh for a while now, but it was installed with the goal of being able to reach Albany while skiing on the mountain. For that reason, it was lower on the face and didn't always reach any further south.

The Problem

After graciously being given a ride to the repeater by a Jiminy employee, we added an 8dBi antenna and about 8 feet of extra elevation. Looking at a map and compass on my phone, however, I could see that even with the elevation gain, there was still a literal mountain in the way. Or at least a piece of the one we were standing on. Then we took a ride further up to where our driver told us had the best exposure towards Bousquet...

The Solution

We installed a secondary repeater on top of the highest point we could access, trying numerous locations and tiring our arms out while holding up the entire assembly above our heads. Eventually there was a spot that I could ping Bousquet, though the signal still wasn't great. However, after getting back, I found that the connection to the roof node I have was significantly stronger to Jiminy than I expected. Jiminy's location is excellent, and now it's the Bousquet repeater that needs improving.

That'll come soon.
